What is a retention fire drill worksheet?
A retention fire drill worksheet is a single-account planning tool that helps you spot churn risk early and close the gaps before renewal.
It walks you through the four conditions that most often fuel churn, then helps you plan how to get closer to the customer in three ways: in the spaces where they use your product, in the language they read about it in, and with the stakeholders who decide whether it stays.
What’s inside the template?
The template has five sections that take you from risk inspection to a team-wide drill:
- Spot the fuel for the fire
- Get close to their space
- Get close in print
- Get close to power
- Run the drill as a team
How to use the template
Revisit the worksheet at least once a quarter. Before you begin, agree with renewals and sales who owns each part of the drill and how often they’ll share updates.
Use the pre-renewal checklist as your early warning. Any unchecked box becomes an action with an owner, and if the same boxes stay empty quarter after quarter, escalate well before renewal.
